Don’t expect Virginia to send many Republicans to Congress in November.

Virginia voters approved their state’s aggressive Democrat gerrymandering proposal on Tuesday, redrawing their House district map to turn it nearly all blue. The change only passed by three points, but it will likely alter the state’s congressional delegation from 6-5 in favor of Democrats to 10-1. This article shows the drastic difference between the two maps. 

Barack Obama celebrated the outcome despite previously opposing gerrymandering when the GOP does it, telling voters, “Thanks for showing us what it looks like to stand up for our democracy.” Only 52% of Virginia’s ballot casters backed Kamala Harris in 2024, but 91% of its representatives will likely be Democrats. Is that really democracy?
