A pair of Australian terrorists attacked a Hanukkah celebration at their country’s famous Bondi Beach on Sunday, shooting dozens of attendees and killing at least 15. 

The culprits executed their assault with long guns from a nearby footbridge, firing at the event’s attendees until a local shop owner heroically intervened. New South Wales police designated the crime an act of terror “designed to target Sydney’s Jewish community,” and at least 11 of the victims were Jews. The elder suspect died at the scene. The younger is in critical condition.

Unhinged identitarians like Randy Fine routinely levy mindless antisemitism allegations against those who refuse to worship Israel. This is not one of those cases. Shooting up a Hanukkah celebration is definitely an example of Jew hate. It was an undeniable act of evil.

We hope Sunday’s bloodshed convinces Congressman Fine and his friends to stop likening good-faith Israel critics to Nazis and murderous jihadists. Bondi Beach’s victims didn’t deserve their senseless deaths, and no one should portray those who oppose the U.S.-Israel “special alliance” as aligned with the killers. For the love of God, it’s time to lower the temperature.
