Seattle Removes 660,000 Street Needles Ahead of World Cup
Democrats don’t want you to know this, but cleaning up America’s cities is completely doable. All it takes is effort.
The city of Seattle has recently removed 5.3 million pounds of garbage, the weight of 530 orca whales, and hundreds of thousands of needles from its streets. The operation has been part of Seattle’s World Cup preparations, which Mayor Katie Wilson says create urgency for her government to finally make its city presentable.
The soccer tournament “gives us a pretty aggressive timeline” for removing trash and homelessness, she said in February. The event will usher in roughly 750,000 global tourists.
Anyone seeking to fix America’s cities deserves encouragement. At the same time, why did this only become a priority because of the World Cup? It’s like when Gavin Newsom decided to clean up San Francisco just because Xi Jinping was visiting. The standards should be high all the time, not just when the world is watching.
