Daniel Penny Breaks His Silence
Daniel Penny granted his first post-acquittal interview on Tuesday, defending the actions that led to his trial and expressing relief over his not-guilty verdict.
“[Jordan Neely] was just threatening to kill people," Penny recalled of the day he stopped the homeless man from terrorizing a New York subway. “The guilt I would've felt if someone did get hurt, if he did do what he was threatening to do, I would never be able to live with myself. And I'll take a million court appearances and people calling me names and people hating me just to keep one of those people from getting hurt, or killed,” he also said.
The former Marine went on to attack Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, as politically motivated and beholden to policies that "have clearly not worked."
Penny’s interviewer praised the former Marine as a “phenomenal human being” after their meeting.
