GUNNED DOWN: New York Hitman Executes CEO
An unidentified gunman murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson execution-style in Manhattan early Wednesday, cowardly shooting the 50-year-old in the back and the leg at point-blank range.
The executioner’s motive is unclear, but police believe he premeditated and preplanned the killing. "The motive for this murder currently is unknown, but, based on the evidence we have so far, it does appear that the victim was specifically targeted. But at this point, we do not know why," NYPD’s chief detective said at a press conference.
Surveillance cameras captured the shooting and the beginning of the perpetrator’s escape, showing him lying in wait, pulling the trigger, then immediately fleeing the scene. His current whereabouts are unknown.
The victim was a husband and father. His widow told interviewers yesterday that he received “some threats” in the period preceding his killing.
