"We may be in a dark moment.”

That’s how Congressman James Clyburn assessed the state of America on Sunday, painting a grim picture of our nation’s future. 

Why is he so pessimistic? Is he troubled by homelessness or fentanyl? Does he lose sleep over affordability and inflation? Not quite. According to Clyburn, the problem is that there isn’t a woman in the White House.

“We may be in a dark moment as it relates to women serving as president,” he warned Sunday on Meet the Press. He also assessed that as a country, “we are not ready” for a female commander in chief.

It goes without saying that the sex of the president is nowhere near the top of America’s list of problems. Only someone so obsessed with identity that they can’t see straight would argue otherwise. 

But let’s pretend that wasn’t true. Is Clyburn’s view even correct? We don’t think so. Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton did not lose because they’re women. They lost because they were bad candidates. America is not the bigoted country liberals claim. If it were, Barack Obama could not have risen to the presidency.

As for a female president? Tulsi Gabbard or Marjorie Taylor Greene could be great.
