Chuck Schumer is pushing for the government to hold the LGBT Pride flag in equal standing as the American flag, planning to introduce legislation to grant the emblem congressional authorization. The distinction would give the Pride flag similar protections as the U.S., military, and POW/MIA flags. 

The senator’s stunt comes after the Trump administration had the gall to remove a Pride flag from outside a New York City homosexual bar and national monument. Officials have since reinstalled the flag, and Schumer’s proposal would prevent it from coming down again. 

Schumer dishonestly described the saga as a result of “Trump’s hateful crusade,” ignoring the fact that the president’s policy had nothing specifically to do with gay rainbow flags. His order called on federal properties to only prominently display the American flag, meaning all others, not just the Pride flag, had to come down. The move was not an attack on gay pride. It was a plea for national pride. America could certainly use some.
