Israel/Hamas Ceasefire Already in Jeopardy
Joe Biden’s braggadocious peace in the Middle East victory lap may have been premature.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delayed his cabinet’s vote on approving the Hamas ceasefire deal early Thursday, accusing the terrorist group of trying to go back on part of the agreement in an attempt "to extort last-minute concessions." As usual, he did not provide evidence to support his claim.
The development makes Biden, Kamala Harris, and Antony Blinken’s Wednesday press conference look childish and irresponsible. By declaring peace before it was official, American leadership gave both Hamas and Israel the ability to use the kind of tactic Netanyahu says his adversaries are exploiting.
Now, after announcing the kind of peace the world has waited 15 months for, the White House must backtrack and return to the negotiating table. All hell could still break loose.
