New Year’s Terrorist Attack Claims Dozens of Casualties
A driver rammed his truck into a crowd of New Orleans holiday revelers early on New Year’s Day, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens more.
Authorities identified the attacker as Army veteran and former Deloitte six-figure consultant Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who reportedly exited the vehicle and opened fire on police after the crash. His bullets struck two officers but killed neither. He died during the shootout.
An ISIS flag flew from the truck’s rear bumper during the crash, and according to the White House, Jabbar "posted videos to social media indicating that he was inspired by ISIS, expressing a desire to kill" just hours before the attack.
The FBI does not “believe that Jabbar was solely responsible" for the murderous operation and is looking into what accomplice or group of accomplices he may have had.
