Harris Campaign Feared Tim Walz Was a Chinese Spy

Earlier this week, we learned that the Harris campaign feared the possibility of Josh Shapiro being an Israeli spy. It turns out he wasn’t the only governor whose allegiance they didn’t trust.

The former vice president’s team also reportedly quizzed Tim Walz on whether he previously served as an agent for the Chinese Communist Party, raising questions about potential espionage after learning about the numerous trips he took to China before entering politics. 

The Minnesota governor taught in China in the 1980s shortly after the Tiananmen Square crackdown and later returned multiple times, leading several student summits in the Far Eastern nation. He also got married on the fifth anniversary of Tiananmen Square, because "he wanted to have a date he'll always remember."

Walz’s China ties are definitely strange, and the Harris campaign was right to have its antennas up. At the same time, it’s difficult to imagine him working as an effective spy. The man is a self-described “knucklehead.” We doubt Chinese intelligence would view him as a secure asset.
