Julian Assange is one of his generation’s greatest journalists. He’s spent his entire adult life bringing previously concealed facts about what our leaders are doing to the public. That is the very definition of journalism. 

It’s also why the establishment hates him. Every time Assange exposes a government war crime or reveals a corrupt politician’s shady record, he earns more and more of its scorn. At least one of permanent Washington’s most dubious figures, former CIA Director Mike Pompeo, hates Assange so much that he decided to murder him. 

During the first Trump administration, Pompeo and his deputies discussed how the CIA might kidnap Assange from the embassy in London or poison him inside. Multiple witnesses heard those exchanges even though at the time, the U.S. government had not charged Assange with any crimes. But Pompeo wanted him dead anyway.

Karma has a funny way of coming around. Donald Trump revoked Pompeo’s security detail this week.
