Congressional Stock Trading Ban Passes Through Committee
The Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee approved Josh Hawley’s Congressional stock trading bill on Wednesday. The legislation, titled The Honest Act, would bar members of Congress, their spouses, the president, and the vice president from holding, purchasing, or selling stocks during their time in office.
Could this bill really become law? Honest figures from both sides of the “aisle” have spent years complaining about politicians using their offices to enrich themselves through insider trading, but there has been little progress in addressing the issue. Donald Trump may be open to changing that.
"I like it conceptually," the president said of the bill. “Nancy Pelosi became rich by having inside information. She made a fortune with her husband. And I think that's disgraceful. So in that sense, I'd like it, but I'd have to really see… I'll take a look at it. But conceptually, I like it.”
