President Announces Israel-Iran Ceasefire, But the Deal May Already Be Dead
President Trump announced a “Complete and Total CEASEFIRE” between Israel and Iran on Monday, taking to Truth Social to deliver the news and celebrate the purported “END to THE 12 DAY WAR.”
The development appeared to mark a triumphant end to what could have been a catastrophic day, with Iran launching a missile barrage at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The Qatari government announced its air defenses "thwarted the attack and successfully intercepted the Iranian missiles” shortly after the attempted assault, preventing the strike from claiming any casualties. Trump said the Iranians gave the U.S. advanced notice of the attack, signaling their desire to deescalate rather than continue the march toward war.
Israel accused Iran of violating the ceasefire early Tuesday, claiming it intercepted two missiles hours after the truce was supposed to take effect. The Iranians denied the accusation, reportedly saying “no missiles have been fired at the enemy so far.” The IDF then planned to launch "high-intensity strikes against regime targets in the heart of Tehran," but Donald Trump says those will now not happen.
