“Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

That’s what Elon Musk wrote about the GOP’s “big, beautiful bill” on Tuesday, chastising the legislation as a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” and a “disgusting abomination.”

The Tesla CEO’s criticism centered around concerns that the bill will burden Americans with “crushingly unsustainable debt” and add trillions of dollars in budget deficits. Republican lawmakers like Rand Paul, Thomas Massie, and Ron Johnson have expressed similar sentiments, with the latter calling it “immoral” on the same day as Musk’s tirade. 

Musk further advanced his messaging early Wednesday, saying the bill “will drive America into debt slavery!” The Congressional Budget Office projects it to skyrocket America’s average spending deficit to $2.3 trillion from 2030 to 2033 and $2.6 trillion in 2034 and 2035. It was $200 billion from 2001 to 2004.
