Dick Cheney Dead at 84
Dick Cheney, perhaps American history’s most powerful vice president, died from complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease on Monday. He was 84.
Cheney was George W. Bush’s second in command from 2001 until 2009. Before assuming the vice presidency, he served as White House Chief of Staff, a member of Congress, and Secretary of Defense. He was the father of Liz Cheney and a major Kamala Harris supporter in 2024.
The former vice president’s legacy will doubtlessly revolve around the Iraq War. He was the conflict’s chief architect, sponsoring the deaths of thousands of American troops, the killings of hundreds of thousands of civilians, and the unrepaired destabilization of the Middle East.
Amazingly, Cheney was a survivor of five heart attacks. Funeral details are unknown.
