Letitia James is New York’s top law enforcement officer. You may remember her as the attorney general most obsessed with locking up Donald Trump. Apparently, she’s less concerned about upholding the law when it comes to her own family. 

James is housing a fugitive relative with a lengthy felony rap sheet in one of her Virginia homes, according to court documents. Criminal grand-niece Nakia Thompson, previously charged with assaulting police officers, is currently wanted in North Carolina after failing to complete the terms of her parole following a 2011 arrest. 

Thompson has hardly turned a new leaf since fleeing to the Old Dominion. Since her move, police have arrested the 36-year-old on charges including possession of burglary tools, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and grand larceny. She has also racked up nine separate vehicle offenses.

As if this story weren’t amusing enough, the house Thompson lives in is at the center of the bank fraud indictment the DOJ filed against James last week. Prosecutors say she lied on her mortgage application when she bought the property to secure a favorable rate.
