Steve Bannon’s Political Imprisonment Ends
Former Trump White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon was released from prison Tuesday morning, ending his four-month term for failing to comply with a House January 6 committee subpoena.
Bannon made history earlier this year by becoming only the second former White House employee in history to be imprisoned for a contempt of Congress conviction, following another Trump administration official, 75-year-old Peter Navarro, who was put behind bars in late March.
Bannon and Navarro’s cases are historical outliers, as other executive branch employees held in contempt of Congress, like Obama Attorney General Eric Holder, never came close to seeing the inside of a jail cell.
Bannon has already announced plans for a post-release press conference.
