Democrat Staffer Busted in Massive Cocaine Sting
A former top aide to the governor of Massachusetts is an alleged cocaine trafficker.
Law enforcement charged Lamar Cook, the deputy director of one of Governor Maura Healey’s regional offices, with trafficking over 200 grams of cocaine, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition on Wednesday. Police arrested the 45-year-old one day earlier after seizing eight kilograms of “suspected cocaine” at his workplace and 13 kilograms sent to a hotel where he used to work. Those hauls total roughly 46 pounds and have an estimated street value of well over six figures.
Cook lost his job shortly after his arrest. His role consisted of “effectively manag[ing] and coordinat[ing] government initiatives and policies in four counties,” according to his LinkedIn page. Those responsibilities were probably easy compared to allegedly orchestrating his drug empire.
He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment and will reappear in court on Friday.
