ELECTIONS HAVE (Good) CONSEQUENCES: U.S., Russia to Begin Ukraine Negotiations “Immediately”
Donald Trump’s second term gives him the opportunity to go down in history as the man who ended the worst European war since the days of Hitler and Churchill. He took a step in the right direction yesterday.
Following a "lengthy and highly productive" phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, the president announced that he and his Russian counterpart agreed to start negotiations immediately to end the neocon-funded war in Ukraine. A meeting in Saudi Arabia may be on the horizon.
The Ukrainians also appear to support the plan. "No one wants peace more than Ukraine,” Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted after speaking with Trump. “Together with the U.S., we are charting our next steps to stop Russian aggression and ensure a lasting, reliable peace. As President Trump said, let's get it done."
Trump added that he doesn’t “think it is practical for Ukraine to have NATO membership" and that it's "unlikely that Ukraine gets all of its land back." A “President Kamala Harris” would have made neither of those concessions, causing fighting to continue indefinitely.
